Reconnecting Gondwanaland

Joint Conference: Sydney and the Southern Highlands, July 31 – August 5, 2022

We aim to push forward the conceptual and substantive work that thinking Gondwanaland enables: what were the precise geological and paleontological histories of Gondwanaland geology after 1870, in different contexts? How does Gondwanaland help us conceptualise deep time in modern history? What are the different national histories of/for this ancient supercontinent? How is it connected to various colonial and settler colonial histories, to coal and energy histories? How does Gondwanaland prompt a southern hemisphere history of geosciences?

This is the first in-person meeting of the Gondwanaland and Antipodal Histories project (AHRC – Pratik Chakrabarti and Alison Bashford, Principal Investigators) and the Antipodean Geology project (ARC – Alison Bashford and Alessandro Antonello, Chief Investigators, Jarrod Hore, Postdoctoral Fellow).
